Hardin Memorial Hospital is a regional healthcare
center, serving the entire 8-county Lincoln Trail Region. This not-for-profit acute care hospital has grown to include more than 300 beds, more than 1,300 employees and more than 200 physicians on staff with 24-hour
full emergency service, a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, and a wide variety of surgical specialties.
   
Communicare provides mental health facilities for the Lincoln Trail Region, including outpatient counseling, drug and alcohol programs and residential services.
    
Hardin County Health Department Center provides healthcare for those who may not otherwise be able to afford healthcare services.
   
Healthsouth Rehab Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for those recovering from surgery, stroke, brain trauma or joint replacement, as well as treatment for relief from arthritis, neurological disorders or pulmonary and respiratory difficulties.
     
Lincoln Trail District Health Department offers health services to the 8-county region. Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health Systems, a psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment facility for adolescents and adults, specializes in treatment for alcohol and drug problems. Other areas include emotional problems, depression, suicidal tendencies, stress and behavioral problems.
   
Community Health Clinic provides basic medical, dental, pharmaceutical and diagnostic care for citizens of Hardin and LaRue counties who are incapable of paying for healthcare services.
    
In addition to comprehensive public schools, Elizabethtown has 3 parochial and Christian schools.
    
Elizabethtown Community College serves residents of Hardin and 8 adjacent counties. The school is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and offers the first 2 years of study toward baccalaureate degrees in nearly every program of study at 4-year colleges and universities. Of the faculty, 90% hold a master's degree or higher. ECC also offers the Associate Degree of Applied Science in nursing, office administration, business technology with options in management, real estate, banking and computer information systems. These programs are designed to prepare the student for immediate employment upon graduation of two years of study.
   
Eight universities and colleges operate extension campuses at Fort Knox, 15 miles north of Elizabethtown. They offer various graduate and undergraduate degrees and are open to the public. Extension campuses operated are: Eastern Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, the University of Southern California, Sullivan Jr. College of Business, and Elizabethtown Community College.

Elizabethtown Technical College, an institution of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, serves Hardin County and 7 surrounding counties. Its purpose is to prepare residents for employment in today's competitive workforce, provide upgrade or additional training for those already in the workforce, retrain those who desire to change occupations and provide life-long learning opportunities for all residents in the area.
    
The Elizabethtown Industrial Foundation Training Consortium was organized in 1987 to upgrade skills of currently employed workers in local industries. EIFTC was formed by local industries, Elizabethtown Community College, Elizabethtown Technical College and the Elizabethtown Industrial Foundation. Courses offered include maintenance, computer applications, regulatory and management. These classes are also open to the general public.
   
    
McKendree College at Radcliff offers a unique format geared around the interest of non-traditional students who work during the day. Classes are offered in a one-month format, meeting evenings, 3 times a week.
   
Brown Pusey House, built in 1825, was known for many years as "The Hill House," a boarding house and inn that once housed General George Custer and his wife in the 1870s. Other amenities include Schmidt's Coca-Cola Museum, the Black History Gallery, Elizabethtown's Historic Downtown Walking Tour, One-Room Schoolhouse, Swope's Cars of Yesteryear Museum, Kentucky Railway Museum, Mammoth Cave National Park and Pine Knob Theatre near the Rough River Dam State Resort Park.
